RingCentral (RNG): Cash Compounding Tests an AI Reacceleration

RingCentral is no longer asking investors to underwrite a growth-at-all-costs cloud-phone story. The June quarter is the first clean print in which the company looks like a cash-compounding communications platform that is trying to attach agentic voice software onto a huge installed base, rather than a mid-cap unified-communications vendor still climbing out of a leverage hole. Customers that already pay for at least one native artificial-intelligence product now represent thirteen percent of annualized recurring revenue, double the year-ago share, and that cohort keeps higher average revenue per user and net retention above one hundred percent. The stock has more than doubled off its fifty-two-week low near $24 and now trades close to the high, so the market has already paid for a large piece of the cash-and-AI re-rating.

The operating engine still grows at a mid-single-digit clip. Subscriptions of $634 million made up ninety six percent of the $657 million top line. Free cash flow of $180 million outran that growth because stock-based compensation kept falling as a share of revenue and because working capital caught a lift from customer and partner prepayments that do not automatically repeat. Management raised the full-year cash outlook and lifted the quarterly dividend to twelve and a half cents, while extinguishing the last convertible notes in March and cutting net leverage to one and a half times trailing adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization.

What the print does not yet prove is whether AI attach is large enough to bend the revenue curve. Annualized recurring revenue reached nearly $3 billion, up seven percent, still only a modest step above recognized subscriptions growth. The debate from here is whether the next several quarters show that paid AI products pull company-wide net retention through one hundred percent, or whether RingCentral remains a high-quality annuity whose multiple already assumes the reacceleration.
