Qualys (QLYS): Cash Engine Tests Whether Platform Mix Restarts Growth

Qualys is a high-margin cloud security vendor trying to convert a long-running scanner franchise into an autonomous risk platform before larger vendors absorb the budget. The June quarter showed the cash engine still works. Revenue rose 11%, and management raised the full-year sales outlook. The market is not awarding a growth-software premium for that combination. The live question is whether newer modules and a federal authorization change the growth slope, or whether Qualys remains a cash compounder whose growth settles into the high single digits.

Partner-led distribution is carrying growth that the direct force is not. Channel revenue reached 54% of the quarter after rising 22%. Direct sales were roughly unchanged, which is the quieter tell. Calculated current billings grew 16%, outpacing recognized revenue and pointing to healthier demand than the income statement alone shows. Net dollar expansion improved only a point, so the attach story is real but still gradual.

The guide is the counterargument sitting inside an otherwise clean raise. Third-quarter revenue is expected in a band that implies growth of 9% to 10%. The raise does not hide a slower second-half setup. Full-year sales were lifted and still imply that same slower band. Cash conversion jumped on working-capital timing, and the company kept retiring stock. The next several quarters resolve whether QFlex packaging, a High authorization on the federal marketplace for TotalCloud, and a still-small government pipeline can stop the deceleration.
