Porch Group (PRCH): Reciprocal Fees Meet a Levered Capital Stack

Porch Group has spent two years converting a scattered home-services platform into an attorney-in-fact that earns fees beside a Texas reciprocal exchange. The June quarter is the cleanest proof that the model works. Insurance Services turned written premium into software-like margins, and income attributable to Porch shareholders turned positive. Adjusted earnings excluding the reciprocal more than doubled to $39 million. The debate is no longer whether the pivot exists. The debate is whether those fees hold once storms, surplus accounting, and a still-heavy convertible stack reassert themselves.

The tension sits in the gap between the owned franchise and the consolidated picture. Porch-owned revenue reached $132 million. Almost all of the earnings step-up came from insurance fees rather than software or moving services. Software and consumer lines barely moved in a frozen housing market. Consolidated results still show a net loss because the reciprocal, which Porch manages but does not own, absorbed a storm quarter. Insurance Services posted a forty-eight percent adjusted margin. Statutory surplus rose after Porch's captive bought reciprocal-held shares for $15 million so regulators would count the proceeds as admitted capital.

The next several quarters resolve one question. Can Insurance Services keep converting reciprocal written premium at the current take while surplus grows without another related-party stock purchase? Management also wants the convertible stack inside the two-to-three-times band named at investor day. Reciprocal policies written rose thirty-eight percent. Written premium per policy fell sixteen percent as new customers mixed in cheaper than renewals. If the fee conversion holds and surplus stands on its own, the multiple is paying for a scaled managing general agent. If policy growth slows, storms worsen, or surplus again needs the share price, the equity is paying software money for a still-cyclical insurance operator.
