ServiceNow (NOW): Agentic Workflows Meet Paid Security Scale

ServiceNow is trying to graduate from workflow compounder to the enterprise control plane for agentic software, and the second quarter is the first clean look at that ambition after the Armis and Veza closes. Management is no longer selling a better service desk. It is selling a single system that governs agents, identities, and connected assets, then routes the resulting work through the same platform that already runs technology, customer, and employee workflows. The commercial engine still looks like a scaled software franchise: subscription revenue reached $3877 million, up about a quarter from last year. That print cleared the high end of the company's own range, and it did so while the equity sat well below the fifty two week peak after a broader software de-rating.

The tension sits under the headline. Current remaining performance obligations, the contracted revenue due over the next year, sit just above $13 billion and still grow in the low twenties. ServiceNow AI annual contract value crossed $1 billion, which is the first hard evidence that the agentic pitch is attaching rather than decorating the slide deck. The same quarter also pulled some federal on premise subscription revenue forward from the third quarter, so part of the beat is mix timing rather than a permanent step up in run rate. GAAP operating income fell even as the non-GAAP operating margin printed just under thirty percent, because deal amortization, stock based pay, and a new interest stack now sit between the platform story and reported earnings.

What the next several quarters have to resolve is whether AI attach and the security stack keep current remaining performance obligations in the low twenties after the federal pull forward fades. Full year subscription guidance now sits just under $16 billion. The October print is the first test of whether that raise survives a cleaner mix.
