Global Payments completed a transformative Worldpay acquisition in January 2026 and simultaneously sold its issuer solutions unit to Fidelity National Information Services, collapsing a complex diversified payments operation into a pure-play merchant commerce provider that serves more than six million merchant locations worldwide. The strategic logic is clean: strip out the card-issuing business that diluted strategic focus and add Worldpay's enterprise and cross-border depth to the existing small business base.

The integration is already producing measurable operating leverage. The second quarter delivered margin expansion and earnings growth that stand as the first hard evidence the combined cost structure is delivering on the synergy case management laid out at the time of the deal.

The Middle East conflict is the complication. Travel-related enterprise volumes carried a significant growth headwind in the quarter, and management now assumes that pressure persists through the remainder of 2026. The question is whether Genius platform adoption and enterprise bookings momentum can offset a travel portfolio that remains well below pre-conflict capacity.
