Forbright Inc is a Maryland bank holding company that just completed its initial public offering, and the first quarter as a public company reveals a business model that trades margin for scale: a digital deposit platform funding national middle-market lending. The thesis rests on deposit beta, the rate paid on interest-bearing liabilities relative to market rates, holding below one while loans reprice with the secured overnight financing rate.

The tension is the cost of that funding advantage. The net interest margin for the first half of 2026 came in at 3.14 percent. It represents a 58 basis point compression versus the year-ago half, and the loan yield decline outpaced the cost of funds decline in the margin walk. The deposit engine worked, but the asset side repriced faster.

Second quarter net income was $4.1 million, with a $5.6 million non-cash deferred tax asset charge depressing the headline. The question the next two quarters resolve: does the new deposit promotion capability launched in June cut the cost of funds faster than loan yields continue to drift down?
