eGain sells AI-powered knowledge management software that sits under contact-center and enterprise AI workflows, positioning itself as the trusted-content layer that makes generative AI outputs accurate and compliant. The company reoriented from a perpetual-license vendor into a subscription, AI-native platform, and it now reports a separate metric for the revenue it earns from customers that actively use its AI offerings. That metric is the true story of the business, and it is growing far faster than the headline total suggests.

Fiscal 2026 delivered total revenue that rose only slightly year over year, but the mix underneath shifted sharply. Revenue from AI-linked customers climbed by a wide double-digit margin, while the legacy perpetual-license base continued a managed decline. The recurring base is now majority AI-connected, and the company ended the year with a clean balance sheet and no material debt.

The stock trades near the bottom of its 52-week range after a post-print drop that followed the fiscal 2026 earnings release and a forward outlook that calls for lower revenue and a modest GAAP net loss. The bear case is that the flat top line is a blended artifact of a fast-growing AI book and a shrinking legacy book. The bull case is that eGain now owns a recognized category of one with a leader position and a large cash pile that the current multiple does not fully credit.
