1stDibs (DIBS): The Luxury Design Marketplace Finds Its Margin at the Low End

DIBS is the public equity of 1stDibs, an online marketplace for vintage, antique, and contemporary furniture, home décor, jewelry, watches, art, and fashion, with a catalog of roughly 1.9 million one-of-a-kind items. The stock trades near five on a share, which puts the market capitalization in the low hundreds of millions. The second quarter of 2026 was the first clean proof point for a strategy that spent four years cutting costs before trying to grow again.

The proof point had a crack in it. GMV rose seven percent to about $96 million, but orders fell four percent and Active Buyers fell ten percent, so the growth came from price per order rather than from more buyers. Adjusted EBITDA flipped from a loss of $1.8 million a year earlier to a profit of $1.3 million. Management is betting that an AI and logistics roadmap, funded by the leaner cost structure, can turn the buyer decline around before the cash cushion runs thin.
