Cirrus Logic opened fiscal 2027 with the largest June-quarter in its history, posting $459.7M of net sales, both of which rank as a record for the first quarter. Diluted earnings of $1.47 GAAP also set a fresh high for the period. The growth came from a familiar lever, smartphones, where the company ships custom mixed-signal ICs into Apple's flagship handset family, alongside a newer leg of the story that the market has so far underweighted, the personal computer business, where Cirrus audio codecs are increasingly winning designs in AI-enabled PC platforms. John Forsyth, the chief executive officer, framed the period as one of strong custom-component demand and meaningful progress on strategic initiatives, including the development of a new camera controller and a smart power IC for 3D sensing applications that extend the franchise beyond audio. The quarter marks the moment when Cirrus transitioned from being a single-customer audio shop to a multi-platform mixed-signal supplier with real optionality beyond handsets.
The headline numbers from the latest three-month window tell the tale cleanly. Net sales advanced 13% versus the prior-year quarter on volume strength in smartphone components, while average selling prices in the audio franchise compressed under normal competitive pressure. Operating income reached $84.4M under GAAP rules, and the non-GAAP equivalent measured $106.7M once stock-based compensation was excluded. The gap was driven primarily by stock-based compensation expense of $20.6M, the largest reconciling item between the two profit measures. Net income landed at $76.9M GAAP, while non-GAAP net income measured $96.1M. Free cash flow generation measured $48.6M after $15.1M of capital spending. The balance sheet remains pristine with substantial cash reserves and no funded debt, providing meaningful strategic flexibility.
The interpretation here is that Cirrus Logic appears underpriced for what is, in effect, a two-engine business in mid-pivot. The smartphone engine remains the cash cow. The Apple relationship represents approximately 90% of consolidated net sales, up from 86% a year ago. The High Performance Mixed-Signal (HPMS) product line delivered 26% growth on top of that concentration. The personal computer engine is the option value. Management commentary on design wins with the latest smart codec for AI-enabled PCs and announced adoption of NVIDIA's RTX Spark platform by multiple customers creates a credible bridge to a more diversified revenue base over the next several quarters, even if the absolute dollar contribution remains modest in fiscal 2027. The single load-bearing risk is concentration, and the falsifiable clock is the September-quarter revenue print: management is guiding to a range of $510M-$570M for the second fiscal quarter, a sequential step-up that is achievable only if the smartphone tape-out calendar and the early PC codec shipments track the design-win commentary from the June period.
