RoboStrategy is a closed-end fund that buys pre-revenue robotics companies and sells its own shares at a premium to net asset value, a structure that inverts the typical retail exposure to the sector. The premium, not the underlying NAV, is the variable that decides whether the equity retains value.

In early August, the shares traded at a premium of 168 percent to the most recent net asset value, a gap that implies the market is pricing in a robotics re-rating well before the underlying companies generate revenue. The NAV per share stood at $11.35 at the end of August, while the market price sat near $27, and the fund carries a committed equity facility that lets it keep issuing shares into that gap. The structure means the equity's performance is driven by investor sentiment for the robotics theme rather than by the fund's own operations.

The forward question is whether the premium can hold as NAV is driven by the mark-to-market valuations of eleven private companies, four of which account for roughly three-quarters of net assets. A contraction in the premium, rather than a fall in NAV, is the principal route to a loss for the holder.
