Atossa Q2 FY2026: Below-Cash Biotech, Above-Clock Trial Calendar

Published August 14, 202623 min read·TickerFile Research · ATOSSA THERAPEUTICS, INC. (ATOS)

Atossa Therapeutics ended the second quarter priced below its own cash. The company carried $26.1 million of unrestricted cash and equivalents on June 30, 2026, against a market capitalization, on the 9,979,298 shares outstanding at quarter-end, of roughly $24.5 million at the August 14 close of $2.46 - a clean negative enterprise value. The quarter itself was quiet in the way most clinical-stage biotech quarters are quiet: no revenue (there is none), net loss of $8.5 million, a 4% reduction in operating expenses from the year-ago quarter, and a $4.0 million net-proceeds June registered direct offering that, together with the existing treasury, bought the company time. The two stories the quarter actually contained were tucked below the headline. The first was that cash, restricted and unrestricted combined, fell to $26.2 million from $41.4 million at year-end 2025, while operating cash use for the half was $19.2 million - a runway that, at the recent run-rate, does not extend into 2027 without another raise. The second was a clinical calendar that, for the first time in the company's history, included completed enrollment in two Phase 2 studies (EVANGELINE and the 40 mg expansion of I-SPY 2 combination arms), with read-outs the company itself expects to begin flowing through the second half of 2026.

Management framed the quarter as execution. The company attached a going-concern paragraph to its most recent quarterly filing - the standard SEC language for a development-stage issuer that cannot fund operations from existing cash and has not secured financing adequate to bridge to profitability. Both facts are correct. The market is pricing the second fact; the question is whether the second-half read-outs change the weight assigned to the first. The setup is a $24.5 million equity in which the cash is visible, the burn is visible, the trial milestones are dated, and the dilution overhang is structural rather than event-driven. The stock has lost roughly 86% of its value from the October 2025 high of $17.70 and trades a few cents above the June 2026 low of $1.75, just after the new financing priced.
