Ambiq Micro, Inc.: Edge-AI Silicon at a Crossroads Between Hyperscale and Power Reality

Ambiq Micro delivered a record second quarter in the three months ended June 30, 2026, with net sales of $33.9 million rising approximately 90% year-over-year, GAAP gross margin reaching 45.0% (a 490-basis-point expansion), and the GAAP net loss narrowing to $7.1 million from $8.5 million a year earlier. The quarter also marked a strategic inflection point: the company completed an upsized June follow-on offering that raised approximately $168 million in net proceeds, announced a parallel listing on the Singapore Exchange under the ticker AMQ, and rolled out a new AI software stack built around heliaCORE and compressionKIT that targets customers running AI models on Apollo SoC families. The core thesis in one sentence is that the secular shift of AI compute from the data center to the edge is bottlenecked by battery and thermal constraints, and Ambiq's patented subthreshold power-optimized technology (SPOT) platform is positioned to capture the high-margin portion of that market by delivering two to five times lower power consumption than conventional integrated circuit designs.

The mechanism behind the Q2 print is straightforward. End-customer demand for edge AI features inside wearables, hearables, healthcare devices, and industrial sensors has accelerated through 2026, pushing net sales up 35.3% sequentially from the $25.1 million Ambiq reported in the first quarter. Gross margin expanded both because the company transitioned its customer base toward higher-ASP newer Apollo products and because R&D and SG&A growth, while still elevated, did not keep pace with the revenue ramp. The single largest load-bearing risk is supply: management explicitly stated in the Q2 release that the company and the broader semiconductor industry are facing wafer supply constraints, and even with the announced $168 million follow-on the company relies on a single foundry partner, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited, for all wafer production across five process nodes (180-nanometer, 90-nanometer, 40-nanometer, 22-nanometer, and 12-nanometer). The falsifiable clock for the thesis is the third quarter 2026 print, in which management has guided to $36.0 million to $37.0 million in net sales (which would mark a sixth consecutive quarter of sequential growth) and non-GAAP gross margin of 46.5% to 47.5%; a meaningful miss on either line would suggest that the supply-constrained environment is throttling the demand pull-through.
