Applied Industrial Technologies: Fiscal 2026 Growth Acceleration

Applied Industrial Technologies closed fiscal 2026 with its strongest quarter of the year, and the fourth quarter sets up the fiscal 2027 story that the equity is now being priced against. Net sales for the three months ended June 30, 2026 came in at $1.35 billion, up 10.4% from the prior-year quarter and up 9.7% on an organic basis after stripping out a 0.3% contribution from acquisitions and a 0.4% tailwind from foreign currency translation. Net income rose to $118.6 million, or $3.17 per diluted share, up 13.2% on a per-share basis, while EBITDA reached $177.6 million, up 16.1%. management described the quarter as its best-ever sales, EBITDA, and earnings per share, and the organic growth rate of roughly 10% was the strongest the company has posted in more than three years.

The thesis here is that the Engineered Solutions segment, which sells fluid power, flow control, and factory automation systems rather than commodity maintenance parts, is becoming a structurally larger and faster-growing share of the mix, pulling total-company growth and margins higher. That segment grew 12.9% organically in the fourth quarter and 6.3% organically for the full year after absorbing an 8.8% acquisition contribution, and it now carries the higher EBITDA margin of the two reporting units. What the market appears to be pricing is a durable re-rating of a distribution franchise from a slow, defensive MRO tape into a growth compounder with real operating leverage, and management has reinforced that framing by raising its intermediate targets to $7 billion of sales and 14% EBITDA margins and issuing fiscal 2027 guidance that calls for mid-single-digit growth and roughly 30% EPS growth at the midpoint.

The single load-bearing risk is multiple compression after an extended run. The stock trades near its 52-week high at about $362, roughly 30 times next fiscal year's guided earnings midpoint of $11.90, and any stumble in the early fiscal 2027 demand readout would pressure a valuation that already embeds a good deal of the growth story. The falsifiable clock is the first-quarter fiscal 2027 earnings report, expected in late October 2026, against management's commentary that organic sales are running up about 7% year over year in the first weeks of the new fiscal year; a print that confirms that trajectory keeps the thesis intact, while a deceleration toward the low end of the 4% to 6.5% full-year guide would call the premium into question.
