Addex's Phase 1 Relay Race: One Readout, One Dilution, One Question

Published August 16, 202625 min read·TickerFile Research · Addex Therapeutics Ltd (ADXN)

Addex Therapeutics ended the first quarter of 2026 with CHF 0.94 million in cash against CHF 1.22 million of current liabilities, a working-capital deficit that, together with a May 15, 2026 going-concern qualification from its auditor, frames the next twelve months as a dilution-versus-catalyst question rather than an operating-performance question. The most recent reporting event is the Q1 2026 interim print filed as a 6-K on June 25, 2026, showing revenue of zero, a net loss of CHF 1.71 million, and the loss-per-share unchanged at CHF 0.01 versus the year-earlier quarter. The company is, in our reading, a single-asset equity with a Swiss-shelf structure: three out-licensed or shelved drug-discovery programs, no in-house clinical activity, three full-time employees as of year-end 2025, and a 20 percent stake in a private spin-out called Neurosterix whose lead program, an M4 positive allosteric modulator known as NTX-253, is on track to report Phase 1 data in the summer of 2026, in the company's own commentary in the same Q1 release.

The mechanism, as we see it, is straightforward. The market is pricing Addex at a roughly USD 9 million enterprise value, which is what the post-balance-sheet treasury-share sales imply, on the assumption that the parent is a capital sink whose only optionality sits inside the Neurosterix stake. A clean NTX-253 Phase 1 readout in summer 2026 re-rates that stake higher and unlocks either an outright monetisation of the 20 percent interest or a partnership premium that filters through to Addex's equity-method line. A weak or delayed readout leaves the company dependent on incremental, dilutive treasury-share sales under its Kepler Cheuvreux sale-agency programme at prices around USD 7.32 per American Depositary Share, where one ADS represents 120 ordinary shares. The June 30, 2026 Annual General Meeting approved an increase in the capital band and the conditional share capital, which is the legal scaffolding the company needs to keep printing ADSs into the market as cash drains.

The single load-bearing risk is whether the company can stay solvent through the NTX-253 readout. The annual report filed May 15, 2026 stated that existing cash would fund operations only through mid-June 2026, which is precisely the window the Q1 2026 release covers; equity at March 31, 2026 was CHF 3.29 million, well below the CHF 4.77 million of equity at year-end 2025 and approaching the threshold at which Nasdaq listing standards would begin to scrutinise the equity base. The falsifiable clock is the NTX-253 Phase 1 readout, due in summer 2026 per Tim Dyer's Q1 2026 commentary; if the readout validates the M4 PAM mechanism in healthy volunteers, the equity-method investment on Addex's books, currently carried at CHF 2.62 million after another CHF 1.23 million equity-method loss was recognised in Q1 2026, becomes the central driver of the equity story rather than a peripheral footnote.
