Aardvark Therapeutics Q2 2026: Trial Ended, Hold Persists - the Unblinded Data Read Decides

Aardvark Therapeutics entered 2026 as a freshly public clinical-stage biopharma, trading the promise of a small molecule meant to quiet the relentless hunger of Prader-Willi syndrome - a lead drug in a Phase 3 trial past the halfway mark of its 90-patient target, clinical sites open on three continents. Four months later that story had collapsed into a different one. On February 27, 2026, after reversible cardiac observations in a healthy volunteer study, the company voluntarily paused enrollment and dosing across its entire portfolio. The FDA placed the ARD-101 program on clinical hold in May. In June, the company terminated the HERO and OLE trials outright and cut its workforce. The stock, which peaked near $18 after the February 2025 IPO at $16, collapsed to a $3.35 low before recovering to $7.19.

This is a pre-revenue company with only one load-bearing asset - the ARD-101 program - and the quarter's numbers reflect a business in suspension, not in motion. The net loss was effectively flat at $14.4 million (GAAP diluted loss of $0.66 per share), because research spending fell as the paused trials stopped consuming cash, even as one-time severance and newly public-company overhead were offsetting that decline. Two of the three acquaintances of a biotech income statement - no product revenue, no pipeline spend-up - cancel out in the second quarter.

What decides this company next is not the income statement. It is two events the earnings release describes without a number attached. First, management is assessing the unblinded data from the now-terminated HERO and OLE trials through the third quarter of 2026, a read it has said will inform "an informed determination of next steps." Second, it says it remains in active discussions with the FDA to resolve the clinical hold. Cash of $73.9 million funds operations into late 2027 - roughly six quarters of runway on the current trajectory. The whole equity currently rests on whether that runway is spent reaching a resumable program or merely run down toward a dead end.
